the thing is, even if the ideologies these people are being brainwashed with are absolutely insane to any thinking person– the concerns they had initially are valid
there IS an economic recession, they’re losing their homes and their jobs and they’re basically desperate, vulnerable people looking for answers that demagogues like Glenn Beck are more than happy to give them, even if the answer is WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE UNLESS WE HATE EVERYBODY!
moderates need to establish a sane sounding rhetoric, after all the talk of change change change, does anybody really know what Obama HAS changed in his two years of office? does anyone know what he wanted to change towards in the first place?
this idea of a different rhetoric being pushed out in the public sphere is something that needs to happen here in Egypt too. and i’m sorry ‘enough’ as a political agenda isn’t enough, it’s just as ambiguous as ‘change’ and in the long run isn’t going to get us anywhere.
kefaya ya nas, enough, is not going to sway the people that say ‘oh well you know, at least mubarak hasn’t gotten us into any wars’ and like it or not, if you’re somebody that’s concerned with a more democratic government, those people’s opinions count too– are they going to be provided any answers?
even if you think i’m being dramatic, with the exception of a few (more power to you arabawy) just look at how many people out there are proposing clear courses of action and goals? i was horrified when the constitutional amendments came out, but at the same time i wondered how many people really know what they want the constitution to look like? if we really had the power to draft a new constitution, how many people know not just want needs to be taken out but what needs to be put in?
